Professional VHS transfer in Somerset, Wiltshire and across the UK.
We transfer VHS tapes to DVD, flash drive or secure cloud storage using broadcast-grade equipment. Every tape is inspected, cleaned and repaired where needed before it's digitised — based in the South West, serving customers UK-wide by post.
Why VHS tapes need transferring now.
VHS was the dominant home video format for over two decades, which means most UK households still have a box of tapes somewhere — birthdays, weddings, school plays, holidays, and footage of people no longer with us. The problem is that VHS tape degrades. Magnetic particles shed with every play, colour and sound quality fade year on year, and a phenomenon called print-through causes the recorded signal to physically bleed between layers of tape on the reel, even in tapes that are never played.
Left long enough, some VHS tapes become unplayable entirely — sticky, brittle, or affected by mould in damp storage. The window to transfer VHS tape to digital safely is closing, which is why we treat every tape as a priority rather than a routine job.
We're based in the South West and regularly collect and deliver across Somerset and Wiltshire, and we also accept VHS tapes by post from anywhere in the UK — so wherever you are, getting your tapes digitised is straightforward.
Inspected, cleaned & repaired
-
Hand inspection firstEvery VHS tape is checked by hand before transfer — for mould, snapped tape, loose splices and sticky "shed syndrome" that can damage playback heads.
-
Cleaning & repair when neededTapes that need cleaning or repair — from light dust to more significant damage — are attended to before digitising. Charges for this work reflect the time involved and scale with the amount of cleaning or repair needed; we'll always send you the cost and get your go-ahead before that work begins.
-
Broadcast-grade VHS decksPlayback runs through professional, regularly serviced VHS decks — not a consumer VCR or USB dongle — for the cleanest possible signal.
-
Time-base correctionEvery deck we use either has time-base correction (TBC) built in, or the signal is passed through a dedicated external TBC unit before capture, to stabilise picture jitter and colour drift — common issues with aging VHS tape.
How we transfer your VHS tapes.
Consumer VHS-to-USB converters drop frames and struggle with worn tape. We transfer every VHS tape through professional-spec playback and capture equipment, so your originals are only ever played back once at the highest quality achievable.
- 01Professional VHS decksBroadcast and industrial VCRs, serviced regularly, tuned specifically for VHS and S-VHS playback.
- 02Frame-accurate captureDigital capture with correction for colour, brightness and interlacing artefacts common in older VHS recordings.
- 03Quality checked twiceFootage is reviewed after transfer. If anything isn't right, we re-run it and keep the best result.
